MedCity to Join Forces with London & Partners

MedCity, the cluster organisation for London’s world leading health and life sciences sector, is joining forces with London & Partners, London’s business growth and destination agency, to consolidate the promotion of life sciences in London.

The organisations will integrate from 1st April, bringing together MedCity’s deep specialist expertise in life sciences with London & Partners’ business leadership, global reach and scale, to increase the impact of life sciences promotion and sector development.

Together, MedCity and London & Partners will accelerate investment and innovation in health and life sciences in London by promoting the sector and strengthening connections within the ecosystem.

Neelam Patel, MedCity’s CEO will lead the organisation through the transition. She has announced she will then step down to allow for fresh leadership as MedCity enters this new era.

Neelam said: “This integration of our two organisations represents a long-term investment in health and life sciences in London enabling MedCity and London & Partners to go further in developing London as a world-leading life sciences cluster. MedCity’s focus on sector development in London has been critical in driving economic growth and accelerating innovation for improving health outcomes. I am incredibly proud of what the MedCity team has achieved, and I am confident of their future success as part of the London & Partners family.”

Professor David Lomas, Vice Provost, Health, University College London and MedCity founding member, said: “As four of the UK’s leading research universities at UCL, King’s, Imperial and Queen Mary University of London, we have witnessed first-hand the impact MedCity has had in maintaining London’s position as a global life science powerhouse. MedCity was an early champion of digital health entrepreneurialism and cross-sector collaboration on advance therapies such as gene therapies and, since the pandemic, on accelerating the pathway of new diagnostics from the lab to patients and healthcare settings. A closer relationship with London & Partners is an exciting future for greater partnership between MedCity and the Mayor of London to grow the Life Sciences sector and deliver more high skilled jobs.”

Laura Citron, CEO of L&P said: “This is an exciting new chapter for the life sciences sector in London. In addition to improving wellbeing and creating high quality jobs, major life science clusters in the capital are now anchoring new neighbourhoods and local economies. I look forward to working with MedCity’s expert team to help start-ups to grow and to win investment for London. We have all the ingredients for success: world-class research, top global talent, capital, and a healthcare system open to innovation”

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I’m proud that London is home to three of the world’s top 20 universities for life sciences, 500 medtech companies and a growing and vibrant health research sector. Bringing together the unrivalled expertise of MedCity and London & Partners will enable us to more effectively drive investment and innovation in our city as we promote these strengths across the globe.”
