    MedCity and the BIA are proud to host this year’s London Life Sciences Week (LLSW).

    The annual event brings together industry leaders, innovators, and investors to unite the global biotech community for a week of unparalleled networking and dealmaking.

    LLSW is London’s Life Science event series of the year, paying homage to London’s Life Sciences scale and success over the past decade. The week is centered around the Jefferies European Healthcare Conference, attracting over 800 international senior decision-makers from life sciences companies and investors.

    The week will kick off this year with a welcome reception on 17th November. Followed by a variety of events throughout the week.

    London Life Sciences Over the Past Decade

    Over the past 10 years, Life Sciences in London has grown as the epicenter for cutting edge innovation, opportunity and growth.

    We’ve seen significant expansion and investment, including a $1.2bn investment in London Life Sciences in 2023. The sector has also seen on average a turnover growth of 5.8% for life sciences companies over the past 5 years (1).

    London Innovation and research has taken a leading position for academic excellence and cutting edge research, with 3 of the global top 15 universities for health and clinical science, as well as being at the forefront of advancements in digital health, remote monitoring, new diagnostic approaches, advanced therapies and gene technologies.

    The London life sciences sector is a rich ecosystem and offers comprehensive support including 110 incubators, making it the largest tech ecosystem in Europe (2). The government provides support including grants for R&D in life sciences and recently, injected an investment of £650m to the life sciences sector through the life sciences strategy.

    London has demonstrated exceptional innovation and collaboration, through the COVID-19 pandemic the unprecedented cooperation between the NHS, government, academia and industry accelerated medical advancements and strengthened the innovation ecosystem. The demand for lab space has surged with new development opportunities arising and with an additional 6.2m sq ft of lab and office space dedicated to life sciences in London set to be built by 2030, the London Life Sciences sector sees an increased investor interest.
