Boosting Life Sciences Social Economy Programme

A UKSPF funded programme designed to tackle health and wealth inequities in seven underserved London communities through life science innovation.

About the programme

MedCity, in collaboration with a consortium of seven London boroughs (Camden, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Lambeth, Southwark, and Tower Hamlets), is proud to introduce the Boosting Life Sciences Social Economy Programme.

As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the health and life sciences sectors, we have embarked on an ambitious journey to create a ‘coalition of the willing’ dedicated to advancing social entrepreneurship in London.

The Boosting Life Sciences Social Economy Programme is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

Our Vision

We envision a future where the life sciences sector not only thrives but also becomes a driving force for positive social and environmental change. Our mission is to empower emerging social enterprises and entrepreneurs in public health and life sciences, thereby amplifying economic opportunities for underserved communities. By harnessing the power of social entrepreneurship, we aim to reduce healthcare and economic inequalities.

Programme funding

With £1.4 million in funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, we have embarked on a 22-month programme aimed at boosting the London life sciences social economy.

This programme will provide critical support to social businesses and potential entrepreneurs, helping them make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our communities.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
