How it works
This year-long programme offers collaborative opportunities and grant-funded support for up to 10 London-based SMEs with a valid diagnostic innovation. Each SME is introduced to world-leading partners for matchmaking with: academics; clinical researchers; major diagnostics companies; medical research charities; and evidence generation authorities. Through this matchmaking process, the SME forms an objective-driven research project, tapping into cross-sector industry knowledge that is otherwise difficult to access. Translational support includes guidance on validation, testing and evidence standards.

Who can apply?
We are inviting applications from diagnostic developers based in London, with proof of concept as a minimum requirement. We are especially interested in diagnostics addressing disease areas prevalent in London, including the following key areas: Infectious and respiratory diseases (COVID-19 and other novel pathogens); oncology; cardiovascular disease.
Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Clinical need for the technology
- Impact of the technology – e.g., speed to market, who/what areas it will serve
- Credibility of the collaborative team to deliver the project
- Utilisation of grant funding – value based on robustness of budgeted financial profile/plan

MATCHMAKING: During stage 1 in July/August, eligible applicants will meet specialists across the sector to explore potential collaboration. In stage 2, applicants will have the opportunity to form collaborative research teams and define the scope of their proposed projects.

SELECTION & START: Finalists will be notified and contracts will be signed by the end of November. Teams start their 12-month research projects in December.
